TC2 thinners

Hi all,

Having a slight problem here with thinners. I've been painting my garage floor with a tin of Johnstone's Floorted, which has gone down wonderfully, no dust at all where I've painted.

My problem comes when it comes to cleaning the brush. I first tried white spirit, but that wasn't terribly effective, and didn't clean the brush out properly, although the paint did dissolve in it a bit, even after several washes in clean solvent, it wasn't fully clean and the paint never settled out of the solvent. Johnstones reccomend their TC2 thinner, but an inspection of the safety data sheets suggests that it's only white spirit, and a look over the wikipedia article on white spirit suggests that it's T2 white spirit. The brush is currently sat in a tub of water to keep it from solidifying while I continue to paint, but that won't last forever.

My question, therefore, is what's in the Johnstones thinner that isn't in my white spirit? I do have some cellulose thinners (toluene based), which I'm planning to try dissolved in white spirit, but failing that, I'm not entirely sure what's in the TC2 stuff. Any ideas?
Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.

one thing that always works for me ..when i run out of stuff for whatever im painting with a brush ..is biological washing power ..

make it into a porridge..dunk the brush ..and need it with your hands ..run under tap ..do it again several times

    see how you get on

wear gloves ..because in the porridge state its almost a paint stripper...and quite irritating to your hands

    all the best.markj
  • When using a paint that requires "special" thinners, or using one that is particularly hard to clean (garage floor paint!) I just clingfilm the brush between the times I use it, then throw the brush away at the end.

£2.00 for OK brush, or £4.00 for thinners...

Don't store the brush in water though! Cling film is much better, and doesn't introduce anything foreign into the paint.
