Tanzania: What's a reasonable price to pay?

My fiancee and I are planning our honeymoon. We're tempted by a safari in Tanzania in Feb... with some luxury, as much as can be offered by the African bush of course. But I am taken aback my the prices quoted, in the region of £4k-£6k per person *not* including flights to Dar-es-Salaam for about 10 days of half safari, half beach holiday.

That seems high... and I wonder if the mention of the magic words 'wedding' and 'honeymoon' might have bumped up prices for all the agents we contacted? Can anyone confirm what price we should expect to pay for a similar type of vacation?

Im not sure what you 'should pay' but that does seem a tad expensive.. have you checked expedia and opodo? Or have you tried doing it it home made? I went to Ethiopia the other year and for me and the missus we got a 3 week trip for about £3K with flights bought separate from hotels

High end safaris do tend to be expensive as are the internal flights with the exception of zanzibar. What accomodation were you quoted for and that would help to clarify if it was overpriced and who did you get the quote from. We've been to tanzania albeit to see friends but done safari and beach, worth doing if you can get costs down which you should be able to by shopping around. You will need to consider costs of malaria tabs too
