Compact camera prices this autumn 2010

I'm looking for a new compact camera to take on a trip leaving 24th Dec 2010. Do the manufacturers bring out new models before Christmas and the soon to be obsolete models are reduced in price? Or is there no predictable pattern?

For the compact range then Xmas will be a peak shopping time. The new Argos catalogue should be out soon if not already out. If you are after a particular brand name then you could check out the web sites. Additionally don't forget the other high street players for promotions etc.

Don't forget, give yourself time to get used to the new camera, learn its modes etc. This will help you take better pictures negating the need for the latest model.

New ranges tend to come out in early summer (April/May). But as cameras are popular Christmas presents, there will be plenty of deals going on in the run-up to the festive period
