I'm a first time buyer and I'm getting bored/fustrated by the house buying process.
We've had a mortgage in principle arranged, the survey went in weeks ago and the searches are due back this week. We are now waiting on the Portman building society to send back the documents for the mortgage - does anyone know how long this takes?

Hi Ringo
We've also applied for a mortgage through Portman. Applied over 2 weeks ago. BS did their survey this monday and now we're just twiddling our thumbs waiting. I did have a letter from Portman statign that we should be getting an offer ( subejct to satisfactory checks) within 15 working days. If I were you i'd ring up their mortgage processing department.
Let us know how your experience with Portman go!
thanks0 -
Cheltenham and Glouchester are just as slow. i am experiencing the same problem. only my seller of the house i am purchasing is getting impatient so now thanks to the mortgage company i am in danger of loosing the house i want.0

Aggggghhh!
Phoned Portman and they said they'd not received our bank statements. I sent those to my mortgage broker 5 weeks ago, he claimed he sent them recorded delivery!!! Oh, i'm so flipping angry!!!
Useless %$&^^&
Update: Recieved email back from broker, he says they all went out recorded delivery and he'd confirmed with the Portman that they'd received them. Looks like my focus of anger is the Portman0 -
Well, I faxed my statements over last wednesday. Phoned yesterday to find out the lady I was sending them to has gone on holiday for 2 weeks and that her boss will handle it.
Phone today to find out they can't find the bloody faxed statements!! Got a new direct fax number and told to try again.
This is too damn stressful. Just been told by solicitor the searches are back, we're ready to go ahead with the purchase.. all you need is your mortgage organised.
Oh I hate the Portman now.0 -
Feelings with you went through the same with my first mortgage with the abbey.
Hope it gets sorted soon for you.
Im on tender hooks, waiting for FTB to get mortgage in our chain at the moment! Its never easy!Pawpurrs x0 -
I phoned back and they now say they've received the fax. Thank goodness. Should be a week before I hear from them next, hopefully with an offer.
Right, i need to chill out.. check out my future new home in the meanwhile http://www.propertyfile.co.uk/home/search/vdetails.asp?src=agent&fd=671&bd=1&db=1&cl=1950&pid=10893934
Fairly respectable for a first time buy I think0 -
Hi ringo,
I found Portman to be ok, I went through them directly. Once survey was done, I got an offer in less than a week. I even amended the amount and they got the new offer out within a few days. I hope it all goes well for you, the house looks very nice.0 -
I think everybody are the same as each other --slow!!!!
At least the Woolwich told me I would receive the application forms for a week, thats only the applic forms, yet alone the offer!!!!
They said it is buying season so there's a backlog0 -
I applied with Portman 3 weeks ago and got my apporval in writing last friday. I have to say that Portman turned around our application very quickly. They've also already informed my conveyancer. Just waiting for the searches to start now!0
