Is it a four year masters degree? If he initally applied for finance for a 4yr UG Masters degree and has repeated one year then he should still get the funding for his final year as funding is generally for the length of the course plus one year.
This is true for students in England and though I can't find where it says something similar on the Student Finance Wales website one of the examples it gives in the FAQs is that if you change to a new course after the first year before starting second year (i.e. only have had one year of funding) then you will get funding for another full degree. Which to me implies the length of the course +1 rule.
Has he informed Student Finance Wales that he is going into his 3rd year rather than final year?
