Smeared screen on plasma tv

Somehow my TV has got smears all over the front of it and they are driving me mad. I have tried wiping it very gently with a damp cloth and various other things but nothing has worked so far. I am scared of damaging it obviously.

Can anyone suggest a tried and tested method to remove these please?

  • I use isopropyl alcohol see HERE

The screen wipes you get have this stuff in them

    Use a lint free cloth

Check with the manufacturer to see if it is suitable before buying / using

I have used it for years, but you do so at your own risk
    baldly going on...

I would be careful what I use for any type of display screen and would NOT risk windowlene.

I always swear by using a microfibre cloth (NOT a cotton cloth!) eg https://www.calotherm.co.uk/index.php?page_id=3&product=26 and caloclean spray https://www.calotherm.co.uk/index.php?page_id=3&product=20

These products are mainly aimed at spectacle wearers but work great on screens!

Why not? What is the difference between the front of the television screen and a window?

Some tv's etc have a glass coating which is meant to help reduce glare, my Sony tv came with cleaning advice and a warning about what not to use. Can't remember what it did advise using though.

The screen may have a delicate anti reflective coating, damage that and the smears might be permanent. The screen may not even be glass.
  • Have you tried using a microfibre cloth???

Do mean TV's with a SHINY screen?

I've never understood this fascination with putting shiny screens on everything these days, first it was laptops, now most TVs seem to have them.
  • the best thing i have found is a microfibre cloth(about £1 for a pack of 2 from tescos)......hold one over a boiling kettle so the steam only gets the cloth very slightly moist, the wipe the screen with it...works a treat, the cloth is virtually dry only very slightly warm and damp..no streaks and a clean tv......
  • Been looking for some tips on this to remove our little horror's finger marks from our LCD TV. Thanks for the tips - will give the microfibre cloths a try.
