Banks who don't make the decision process clear?

This is one thing that pi$$es me off.
I applied for a Bank of Ireland current account, all appeared to go well, they said they would send out the forms for me to sign, all well and good, got the forms, signed them, also had to send in ID, it said the next step is we'll check the documents and in the next 14 days you will receive your card and pin followed by a cheque book, great I thought. Couple of days later the usual "Your application has been unsuccessful" etc etc:mad:
Same today with Halifax, I applied for acount, it processed the details I provided and said "Account opened" and provided me with a sort code and account number, then went onto say about switch my current bank account and went onto setup online banking, I log in and under my account number it said application decission.
CUSTOMER DETAILS NOT AVAILABLE
Sorry, we are unable to display the relevant information. Sometimes when customers open a new account we are unable to match this to your customer record. Please call the Online Helpdesk on 0845 602 0000 or try again later. We apologise for any inconvenience caused
I log in now and it says declinded:mad:
Now what the hell is happening there, They give you an account then take it away? If your credit rating isn't the best being told your being given a current account is excellent news to be told a few hours later your declinded, Its like an unemployed person being told "Congratulations you have the job" only to be told a few hours later "Sorry we made a mistake"
Have you had any issues like this? Its almost like false advertising.

Applications tend to be Agreed In Principle - this means that subject to their further checks they can choose to accept or decline you as a customer for that specific product.Best Regards
