I am USELESS at this stuff, so please no one attack me or anything! At the moment my partner and I are receiving about 15 pound a week tax credit due to my income. We have 2 kids so she is also receiving the other thing where you get 33 pound for a week i think it is. Sorry if im not explaining it correctly. My partner is ready to go back to work now as my youngest is just about old enough for nursery so how does it work? IE, how much on average is a nursery day? Would we get help paying for it as even though my wage is ok, I have high outgoings due to mortgage etc so Im not left with much for things that we need. Also if she got say a job tommorrow, would she have to pay back what she has received from the tax credits since april or does it just stop? Thanks for your help, I hope you can understand what im saying

How much do you both earn? No one can tell you how much your nursery will cost, you will need to ask them that question. You may qualify for help with 80% of childcare costs, depending on your earnings.Gone ... or have I?0

Not sure what she will be on as she hasnt got a job yet, she is in the process of looking, but it wont be much it will just be a part time one but Im on about 32000 a year.0

Ok. So your partner would only be able to claim Conts Based JSA, but i will assume she won't fit the criteria for this based on what you have said so far.
You need to tell HMRC about your change of circumstances when your wife gets a job to avoid an overpayment of CTC.
The CB (£33 payment) will remain unchanged.
If both you and your partner work more than 16 hours a week, you may be able to get some help with childcare costs. To get help, you must use a registered provider. As DMG said, you will have to find out how much the childcare will cost!0 -
even if your other half got a job on minimum wage, 16 hours per week, that together with your slary would mean you wouldn't get any help with childcare and no working tax credit, but your child tax credit may go up very slightly0

If for some reason we where not entitled to the child tax credit anymore after she gets a job, (I dont know how it works)... will we have to pay back what we have had of HMRC since the start of the tax year? thanks0

No, because you were entitled to it at that time. But as soon as the circumstances change you MUST inform HMRC so as to avoid an overpayment.0 -
Tax credits is based on your previous tax year income unless what you estimate to earn in the current year is lower so no you wouldnt be overpaid for your income going up in this tax year (unless the income went above £25000 which is highly unlikely if your partner is just going to be working part time)0
