Connection error 12007?

I have managed to remove a Security Tool virus from DH's laptop, now it won't connect to the internet. I've tried rolling back the drivers but I can't, he installed IE8 last week so I took that off. Nothing works I'm just getting connection error 12007. Help appreciated.

Edit, system restore has no restore points either.

Try checking your LAN settings in Internet Explorer.

Open Internet Explorer, click on Tools menu, select Internet Options, click on Connections tab.

Click on LAN Settings, under Proxy Server check if the box labelled "Use a proxy server for your LAN" has been ticked.

If it has been ticked then untick it to disable it and then press the OK button to close, then press the OK button to close the Internet Options screen.

Now that you have disabled the proxy server you might be able to access the internet.

I think that one of the files that malwarebytes has quarantined is a registry file needed by DHCP. I'm not going to try and restore any as they are corrupted so will hand the laptop of to someone to fix tomorrow.
