a better way to deal with the !!!!less

the Govt should build large controlled estates (semi-prison type places) where anyone can go and live if they feel they can't get by in the real world.

in these places, they will be fed and kept warm and given a place to sleep and basic sanitary provisions - and nothing else ie no cigarettes, no booze, no tv, no play station.

and this will be available to everyone who wants help. all you have to do is sign up and go in. you cannot leave though at night. this way drunk chav will be off the streets so real people can walk safely at night.

then, all other benefits should be stopped. you have the choice, work and get by in the real world, or go to live in one of these semi-prisons.

that would save billions.

the !!!!less would get what they deserve - nothing

the real people will pay less tax and have less dregs around to ruin their days.

its win win.

You had to work in return for your board and lodgings in the workhouse if you were able.

My grandmother was born in the workhouse, was bought from the workhouse (ie someone paid money to the workhouse to adopt her) and was returned later by her purchaser/owner. This was C20th England.

It's amazing to think that you only have to go back a couple of generations to that system

She ended up being re-adopted by a farmer who used her as farm labour until she ran away in her teens.

That's horrid. Like on Ebay, except for electrical items.

Couldn't afford to keep her from what we can gather. It could have been worse. Imagine being sold on by someone desperate.

Goodness me!! Do you not realise how much all this will cost the taxpayer? I have a better solution: gas the lot of them and take the expenses from their relatives in the form of fees.

my grandfather waas sold by his mother, she had two boys and no husband (he may have died, he may have left, we don't know) and she sold my grandfather so she and the other boy could survive.

she sold him to a farmer who used him as farm labour and he too ran away as soon as he was big enough
  • this workhouse seems a brilliant idea. bring it back - along with debtors prison.
