Assuming you already have a bank account, you need to write to the benefit delivery centre which pays your benefit (the address will be on any letters you've received from them, or your local jobcentre can provide you with the address). You should tell them that you no longer wish to receive payments into the Post office card account sort code XX-XX-XX account number XXXXXXXXX, and instead would like payments to go into bank account (name of bank), (name of account holder) (sort code) (account number) and sign the letter. Tell them from what date you wish the change to be made, if it is going to be at some point in the future.
If you have already closed your Post office card account, to prevent delays in your benefit payments, you should contact them immediately by phone to get any payments due to be credited recalled and re-issued by giro until they receive written confirmation of your new account details.0 -
Thanks AsknAnswer2 I'm waiting for ltsb to get back to me I've applied for a basic bank account (I already have an account with them but like to have an account just for my benefits payments) I have not closed the post office account yet at least now I will know what to do.
Thanks again0 -
why would you need a seperate bank account just for your benefits?0

Hi
You can actually ring the benefits office and do change of bank dets over the phone (I have done this recently).
The only thing I would say is keep the old account open until the benefits start going into the new account as this can take 2-3 weeks for them to sort out. They advised me on the phone of this and said it is easier than them trying to claim money back and issuing giro's (they said you could be waiting weeks for money if they have to claim back).0 -
you are welcome. good luck with the transfer... very easy to do...0
