    The staff shouldn't have told you that you could get it waived on appeal.

    But ignorance is no defence, you should chalk this one down to experience.

    As you missed out - he went one station past where his Oyster card covered. There were no warnings on the train announcement (I don't know if this normally happens or not), or anything like that. He got a penalty fare, the staff said "They'll waive it if you appeal". He appealed. They didn't wave it.

    And yeah, I hate post editors too. Months from now, someone may be in the same situation and search the forum for help. Just because you have got an answer you either do or don't like, don't deprive others of having the information.
