:DThanks - next question is can I use the seeds out of one of the chilli peppers to grow more and, if so, would they grow over winter if I planted some now for example on the kitchen windowsill? At 150g of chilli per time, and a lot of wee jars of the jelly to make (150g will make 3-4 jars), I could do with having even more than are currently growing.

Well... it depends. If you have grown only chillies undercover and hand pollinated then yes but if they have been exposed to the air or insects then you risk the seed not being true. Normal peppers cross pollinate chillies so if you have grown these then the seed may not taste right when it produces- e.g. no heat

i always wonder why people grow chillies when you can get a bucketload from an asian grocer for a few bob.

You could say the same for potatoes. I can get 25KG for £5 from a local source.

Lidi are doing sweetcorn for 19p each at the moment. I'm growing 8 at the moment - seeds cost about £1.50...I guess I'm 2p up by growing my own!

Erm you haven't factored in time and effort, compost and pots (albeit re-usable), any supplements you may have had to introduce in their feed, water rates!

I doubt 2p would cover it really, even if it was just time and effort you'd need to measure...

On the otherhand, I have a load of tomatoes and a handful of Peppers growing in my conservatory so I know you couldn't put a price on the enjoyment of producing your own! (even if they eventually taste like crap - the peppers have been nice coz i ate two, but don't know about the tomatoes yet, one looks ready for plucking!)
Would you ask the wolves to look after the sheep?
