Hi everyone, I have a large hot water tank, but it seems to lose a LOT of heat, is there anything I can do to cover or insulate it? Cheaply?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Spare blankets, towels, duvets, bedspreads, etc?
Clothes that you might otherwise be throwing out or donating to charity?
Cardboard that you might otherwise throw out or recycle?
Lay them over and around the cylinder, join them with clothes pegs or bulldog clips or similar.
Alternatively, go to a plumber's merchant, B&Q etc and price a jacket which will fit.0 -
I never cease to be amazed that there are still uninsulated hot water tanks about. If it is made of copper then no wonder there is a big heat loss. Copper is one of the most conductive materials available.
First of all, is the tank a cylinder. If so then just measure its diameter and height and go and buy an insulating jacket to fit. This is easy enough to do. If the tank is square or rectangular(rare, but I have come across a couple in my time). You can still buy a jacket that will probably fit with a little modification. If not make up your own insulation from polystyrene panel and tape them around the outside of the tank.I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
