Shoes for a wedding

Following on from Suits for a Wedding, I have been having thoughts about accessories for my outfit.

Just to recap:

... a looser cream silk with a floral turquoise thing going on, which looks good under my turquoise Jaques Vert jacket (the shoulders are a bit odd without it but I might be able to work out what's going on there and fix it). Not sure what bag / sandals would go with that but I did see a small turquoise bag when I walked past Animal yesterday. Otherwise it would probably be the grey bag and sandals again.

I was almost settled on the grey sandals and bag, except I found a casual turquoise bag in a charity shop which is a decent size without being overwhelming, IYSWIM, so I started looking for turquoise sandals or shoes, except I've left it a bit late in the season.

And then I found myself buying these from Clark's, partly because I've started worrying a bit about what to wear on my feet if it's not sandal wearing weather, especially with photos in a Botanic Garden, and honestly my only shoes which I can wear with a dress are pink, which is not going to work with a turquoise outfit, is it?

In my defence, they are extremely comfy and I'll wear them other than for this wedding, but are they too 'sporty', and would they look better if I trimmed them with a big turquoise flower, like this? Or would that just look ridiculous?

Can you tell I don't dress up very often? :rotfl:

Without further outlay, I would be inclined to take a chance and wear your original grey sandals. I would also stick a spare pair of tights in my handbag, just in case my toes got wet! I do think the Clarks shoes are a bit too practical looking for a wedding personally.

If you wanted to spend a tenner, keep your feet dry ( and are possibly prepared to sacrifice comfort) you'd probably be able to pick up a pair of neutral suitably-weddingy plain court shoes with a heel in Primark or similar cheaply.

As far as the bag's concerned, I don't think it's necessary to match shoes and bag, these days. In fact I think the trend is the opposite. I would try the outfit and sandals on and see which bag looks best.

I think the shoes are too casual for a wedding and too casual to wear when using a handbag. You could get slipper type shoes or pumps if you wants flats but there are some lovely wedge heels about that will give you stability but also look more 'weddingy'

I don't know what size you are but these are going very cheap at the moment.

Yeah, I saw that, would like to get them cheaper, if I can, obviously.

Anyway, I've created my own ebay account as DH's doesn't seem to be working, watch this space ...

YES! That was me! :j:j:j I was a bit canny, I did have a maximum bid of £10 on. :rotfl:

Thank you SO much. I will let you know if they fit or not.

Meanwhile I now have a pair of shoes which are not pink, but which can just about be worn with a skirt. And they are comfy! Win win situation!

I shall have to turf out the black shoes which I've worn occasionally with a skirt which aren't really comfy. Maybe I could ebay them - oh no, that would mean learning how to upload photos ... plus they are not a 'make', IYKWIM.

Yes, they've arrived, and I'm very excited, the boys less so ... :rotfl:

they are not the most comfortable shoes I've ever found, you wouldn't want to run for a bus in them, but I'm not planning to run for any buses in them! I don't think they will cripple me or give me corns or blisters, which is a major consideration.

And I've slid the bows over to the side, because I think they look silly in the middle.

The strap is removable, and there's a slight problem in that it comes unpoppered if I move too much, but I hope that will be OK on the day!

I'd never have thought of turquoise with a pink trim, but I might get the pink handbag out now! And just the grey tights to find now, although I'll make do with neutrals if I can't find any!

You lot may have a lot to answer for: if I find I CAN buy shoes online, AND I've got an Ebay account, who knows where it will end! :rotfl:

Just to update, we're back, and my feet are fine!

I wore both the undressy pair and the turquoise pair at work for a couple of days: both were admired, but the turquoise pair particularly so!

I got the small pink handbag out, but also used the larger turquoise bag for 'extras', which was very useful (see below).

On 'the day', I wore the undressy pair to walk to the church (about a mile): I'd sewn big pink flowers to a hair clip just to dress them up a bit! :rotfl: We stopped at the end of the road to let DH put his tie on, and to let me change my shoes and stuff them in my larger bag.

Between my sleeveless dress and my turquoise jacket, I had a very lightweight pink cardigan, which didn't show at all, and on top I had my thick grey coat. Took that off at church, but was glad of it later.

After the service (which was lovely, btw), we walked up to the botanic gardens (about 10 minutes) and my shoes behaved. I was able to leave my coat and larger bag on a bench for the photos, but didn't freeze while waiting around!

Then back to church for the Wedding Breakfast, still in the turquoise shoes. Was also able to stuff the pink cardigan into the bag. Changed into the sensible ones to walk back to the hotel, a wise move as it was up a VERY steep hill and the boys were leaving me behind.

Straight on to the evening reception, at which I changed my tights because the support ones were driving me round the bend!

Boys all looked very smart in their suits too. DS2's friends have good taste (they insisted on choosing shirt and tie to go with the suit, and wouldn't let him have the cheapest M&S could offer!)

I've worn the full range of footwear this weekend as we went for a walk in the Peak District on Sunday morning, with walking boots and sticks!
