  • No Poppy, I was not turning it into an anti-teacher thread just responding to Becca's comments.-i'm hardly likley to do that with four teachers in my immediate family.

and actually it was anti-professionals who don't appreciate their own charmed life.

Like any professional you are entitled to say honestly -no sorry on this occasion I do not feel I know you enough etc but not to charge money!

I don't think I have a charmed life, far from it. I do know I'm lucky that I realised studying & working hard is the key to better working conditions and pay. If only we could make all youngsters realise this.

I am sorry you don't feel entirely happy with your life. I like everyone suffer the usual problems -child with disability, cancer etc but I have been brought up to believe , which is why I work as I do and why my family work in the community as much as possible in our spare time , that I was blessed with academic ability and parents who knew how to guide me to education and that it is my duty to use that elevated status to the best of my ability to help others -often people who have not had my opportunities or who for whatver reason do not have the ability to do what I do.

It is the fact that my life has and is not always perfect that enables me to sit back and see how hard life is for many people and to not dwell on little things but to feel grateful for the very loving supportive family I have and for the people in the world who try very hard to do their best to give fully to their community.

I don't normally contribute to these rants-sorry but this one got me!

I think my last post was completely valid as I stated it was my own knowledge and experience that I don't know anyone who works harder for no money than the teachers I know. If you know different in your experience cannyscot then fine but that makes no difference to my experience which is the only viewpoint I can obviously give. I didn't say that noone else works hard just that I see teachers in my own life work particularly hard. The only people I've known in MY life that have been put on sick leave from stress etc are people in education. And I just don't see the logic in some of the choices on the official list. I in no way see "professionals" being more reliable or more upstanding than anybody else and the fact that somebody just has a degree doesn't mean much either in itself.

Didn't mean to imply that you did, I'm just elaborating on more of my thoughts and my position as I think of them. :D

There's so many degrees and qualifications now that I really don't know what a professional is any more. It seems like just about everyone could be considered in a "profession".

I didn't say I was unhappy with it. I just meant it wasn't charmed as in everything handed to me on a plate.

I don't think you mean it to but this comes over as so patronising.

Superscraper - prostitutes are the original Professionals:rotfl: and you would have to pay one of those to sign your passport:rotfl: :rotfl:

    Rubbish!!!

My mother is a principal teacher , does everything she should in her job and has some of the best results in the country. She is also a local authority councillor and because of her principals works in a less affluent area making sure special needs schools get resources and old age pensioners get housing , people with difficult situations get help and as a JP can sign quite a few things, she would not bat an eye nor ask for money,to sign anything that was required.

I come from a family of professionals and I am sick of people who are up themselves because they are professional -their time is money etc-they are busier-places like MSE would not exsist if we were too busy to help other people! I get loads of help advice from here and I would gladly give help to anyone I could.

There are like any profession teachers who are good caring and professional but there are also those who think it is ok to treat the other mere mortals no matter how caring kind and professional as if they too are children -in fact quite a bad habit amongst the teachers I meet. -but thenI am probably biased as my Father has been inspecting HT and teachers all his life and the stories I hear are at sometimes quite remarkable. So no Sorry they are no busier than your average FD(ie me ) working in the Charitable sector as times having to pitch in with the crap to make the Charity meet it's targets and having 3 children , one with additional needs or for that matter some of the single stay at home parents who post on here who are obviously up to their neck time wise.

    Rant over!

I think you need to come into the real world. You say teachers are no busier than your average FD (although no FD I have ever worked with, and there have been many, could ever compare their hours of work to a teacher's hours ). However, I also know that any FD worth his salt is getting a salary far in excess of that of an average teacher!! So its not really a fair comparison - is it?

Ahh yes, the second oldest profession being thieving. Not much better to ask really, you don't have to pay them at all but you'll find your wallet missing after you leave them. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
