Why is a person that handles your money called a broker?!
  • "A place of mutual support for those struggling to get out of debt plus help from other debt nerds".

There certainly does appear to have been a lot of insensitive, if not completely antagonistic, postings recently and having been reading this board and posting for sometime, it's come as quite a surprise. I can only assume that as more people become aware of this forum, it will attract both those in debt and those who vehemently oppose it, wishing to just wind folk up and show them the error of their ways. As an open forum I imagine it's hard for the board guides to prevent this and although it should be discouraged ("don't feed the trolls"), there can be, to be honest, some wise words amongst them. It's unfortunate that a sentiment can't always be expressed accurately through words alone and it's unfortunate that some people like to argue with others just for kicks.

However, I would say that just because someone doesn't agree with someone else's comments, or offers advice in a different way, it doesn't necessarily mean they don't have the OP's best interests at heart. Sometimes stating the obvious and holding up a mirror is necessary to get a point across, as long as it's done sensitively and isn't confrontational.

Constructive criticism and advice is just as important as sympathy/empathy. Some people on this board prefer to let people know they care by sending (hugs), others are better at offering ideas, suggestions and encouragement (where they can). No one is right or wrong.

I have noticed, however, that an increasing number of newbies are posting and seem to be oblivious to their involvement in their own situation. It's very difficult to help people when they don't admit that the problem they do have is actually their's. I've watched many of Martin's TV reports as well as that guy off 'Bank of Mum and Dad' and I've never seen them say...

"Yeah, it's the bank's / creditor's fault that you took out that money and spent it all. You should not, under any circumstances, change your spending habits, repay the debt or accept reponsibility for your actions".

...and I don't see why it should be any different on here. We're all in debt but, like it or not, the support that we offer may differ.

(Don't all "thank" me at once... ;) )

Dunno about PMT - but the HRT is brilliant! Even the dog's come out of hiding.:rotfl:

But seriously, yes, there are more agressive people about - but the beauty of this is that you can just ignore them and give them the virtual 2 fingers.

There are still so many really really nice mse's out there and they're the ones we all need to listen to - even when we don't agree with their opinions.
    DO YOU HEAR?
  • I dont know, i only joined this month, so im not sure either!?!?

A sin bin would be good as i've come across some threads i've read where some people arent just being helpful like you ay with constructuve criticism, some are just rude.

Alot of people are here because they know they have problems, at least people are trying to do something about it.

But can they put a sin bin on here??

I have 2 names for the sin bin already and YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

My thread has been removed now because of the personal comments. I understood that people would have a different view of my circumstances, I even agreed with the 'nasty poster' a couple of times, but then he got repetative and boring and turning on those trying to help and becasue of that my thread got removed. He then turned on me in one of his own posts and then someone else thought they'd have a go at me too.

Does it bother me? Nope, couldn't give a monkey's! :D

When I have more to add to my thread, I will start a new one ... and your all welcome to help. :D

  • I get pre MT and post MT plus live in a all girl household so this place is pretty much out of bounds for 3 weeks of every month :p
going back to the thread I have noticed some posts that are not exactly helpful ( theres me being diplomatic ) I had a hard time with a certain other MSE'er on a thread once and it is not nice, so I spat my dummy out and didnt come on here for a while but then the addiction took hold of me again and here I am. I had a thread the other day which I could have taken offence at some of the replies but I just rose above it - I know who I am and I know what sort of person I am, they all ended bickering amongst themselves in the end  On the whole most people on here are good people and are here for support in difficult times and to help others going through difficult times themselves. Lets not let a minority ruin the excellent work that this site does.
Now then where is the chocolate :EasterBun

I was late for work this morning and missed train so got offpeak rate for £1.80 (saved £1.20) - but then went and spent £2.34 on redbull and cookies!!! - terrible and bad for me. Haven't spent anything else today though and took own lunch in to work. Will do better tomorrow.
