what counts as a purchase?

i have deposited money into gambling sites via my new natwest credit card and expected this to be 0% interest for the introductory period. however on looking at my first statement i've been charged interest. does gambling not count as a purchase?

No, not with most card companies.

It is a cash advance. What else did you expect it to be?

Reasonable assumption, in my view. But assumptions are dangerous - almost certainly the T+Cs will make it clear that gambling transactions are treated as cash transactions.

My guess is they are priced that way because of a higher perceived risk (people going crazy) than for "normal" purchases.
