Provisional Tax Credit

Hello. Im sorry if this is a little off- topic but I have a problem that has affected my Tax Credit claim.
First off, I am claiming tax credit jointly with my husband.
My earnings last year has gone up about £300/yr compared from the previous year. My job hours stayed the same 30hrs/wk. I have 4 young children but none less than a year old. And obviously grown a year older from last year
Now with my husband...
He quit his last job last March and working there 30hrs/wk. And found another job June and only works 24hrs/wk. He didn't claim JSA in-between.
The problem lies with his p45. In his last payslip, he earned just under £9000 but in his p45 its 0...
So in the end I was forced to declare the amount from his last payslip(March).
HMRC had written that they cannot work out our income from last year so I'm given provisional tax credit for this year, and at End of
Year term its either I'm underpaid or have to pay back.. (oh! please not the latter!:)
Is there a way to find out why his earning in his p45 is declared as £0?
Please be nice I'm new..:o

Did your husband receive a p60? If the P45 was issued in April then the company may already have moved their tax year forward thus resulting in a zero P45, however, in this case he would have to have received a P60 which can be used instead for last years earnings.0

Hello. Thank you for the reply. As my husband received his p45 on an April, it may be possible that they already moved their tax year but as far as we are concerned he hasn't received a p60 from them. Would we be able to request a copy of that?0

Normally P60's are issued automatically, but you can try the company and see. You could always get your husband to check with his current tax office (new employer should be able to confirm which office) for the income details they hold for him for last year.0
