Is H-L really the best choice for fund investing?

A bit late from me too; just wanted to say that I like HL and have been with them a long time so I would not think of changing even if I could get a bit more refund of their commission each year. I once wrote asking why a particular fund had a Gold Star as I thought it was poor, way down the league table of similar funds. The person who replied went to a lot of trouble to explain their attitude to it. If I occasionally ask them a daft question I always get a prompt and very polite response.
The one gripe I have is about the sheer volume of correspondence they send. But, I was pleased to see that a list of their favoured funds contained mostly the ones I have invested in, and I don't pay for advice.0 -
gents is it really worth it for 0.5% addittional income that s £5 for every £1000
i would thikn you need at least !£100,000 to make it worth you time (£500)0 -
thats 0.5% every year tax free0

I think its worth mentioning that H-L's Vantage portfolio also offers a loyalty bonus. Although personally I've not exactly amassed a fortune, I do think it is a nice additional extra.Hargreaves Lansdown receives annual renewal commission from most fund managers. We share this renewal commission with our Vantage clients in the form of an annual saving, which we call the Loyalty Bonus. The Loyalty Bonus is credited to a separate Loyalty Bonus Account within your Vantage portfolio.

No, I have not opted into something. I get a lot of mail about finance in general probably because I have accounts with Fidelity etc and another broker who handles my single company PEP from wayback. I also get a lot of unsolicited telephone calls. As I do not use advice from HL their envelopes always seem to be hanging around waiting to be read.0 -

I received a letter from them today offering to pay me £250 if I would switch investments I hold elsewhere into their Vantage account. Don't know how they know about these other funds etc but they obviously do. I only have three days to decide!0

Lucky guess probably.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0
