Hi DCFC79, I'm with Virgin on ADSL broadband. My main computer, also using a Speedtouch 330 reports syncing at around 5.4 Mbits but actual speed rarely gets above 2Mbits due to line length from the exchange and quality of the 1930's telephone lines serving my property.
Would any of this affect my choice of router please?
This being MSE the best router for you to get is the one you get Virgin to send you for free by threatening to leave and switch to someone else
-usualy needs you to commit for another 12 months with them but if you're generally happy with your ISP and OK doing that you can avoid needign to go buy one. They'll likely say no first time and try to sell you one but as per other threads on here if you persist you'll get one
Also I'll echo earlier comments that you are much much safer behind a router (which all have built in firewalls these days) than you were on a UB modem so will get a boost there too....0
