Why do some landlords say no to HB tenants?

I don't believe anyone has asked for brownie sympathy points at all. I find your attack on the OP totally repellent.
And I've reported you for abuse. I hope you get yourself banned.0 -
I wonder if dizzieblondie is not getting something???0

Old saying: A professional does for money what a gentleman does for love: Doesn't help this thread, apologies for wasting time...0 -

Wouldn't care if I did sweetie. I'm just a barren walking coffin of two - I don't matter around here.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
What a horrible situation to find yourself in. Please don't lose heart. My sister is on benefits (although she does work part timenow, she didn't use to) and has been in a number of private rented properties from flats to houses. She always manages to find a decent property and leaves them in a better condition than when she moved in. Perhaps if you are renting now (my brains like a sieve and I can't remember what you said) you could get a reference from your current landlord. Keep looking, something will turn up.0

I was hoping that wasn't the case.
I am very organised with money since having to rely on benefits for the last 8or9 months, it's a case of having to be!. I hate being in this position, I used to be self employed running my own childminding business full time and now I am living on income support, etc looking after my son who is autistic and peole's reaction when they ask me what I 'DO' makes me want to weep.
That is so sad, Kay. Some people make judgments simply because they're ignorant and bigoted. I really hope your circumstances improve soon and you get the respect you deserve.0 -
The problem is a few bad eggs spoil it for the majority and because of that landlords are afraid to risk their rent being blown on Special Brew and fags. Back when HB was paid directly to the landlord it was pretty much guaranteed income.
Isn't housing benefit paid directly to the landlord now? I heard that it was.0 -

As stated before on 'the OCD thread', I'd go as far a health checks rights for the landlord.
I didn't state that you weren't running your business as you choose, I just wondered.
Lots of professionals don't tend to have employers, though - vicars, barristers, some doctors / dentists / vets........much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
my rent is paid to landlord with me making up some of it by direct debit.:footie:0

I have never come across nasty posters on MSE before - I am so upset!
When I post I mention my situation so people reading get a full picture e.g why I am receiving a certain benefit or am saving up or paying off debts etc. Obviously my son having a disability is a big part of my life. I'm sorry if my mentioning it offends people, and I am CERTAINLY not looking for pity. Nor did I 'have sex and get lucky' my son was planned and came into the world with two loving, working parents who had been together many years before starting a family. Why not keep your assumptions and prejudices to yourself. :mad:It is only a bargain if you need it!0
