How far does a boiler have to be away from an Oil tank?

How far does a boiler have to be away from an Oil tank?, I have heard that houses have not passed surveys because the boiler was too close to the oil tank, I am in the process of moving my boiler at the minute and I was wondering if anyone knew the regulations for this,

I am no expert but I have a book here that I used. It's a bit complicated because it has to do with the height of your tank above the burner level of your boiler.
For example if your tank outlet was 3.5 meters above your burner, and you were using 10mm pipe, you could have 100m of pipe. etc

Head height and size of pipe = max distance.

It would seem that if you use 10mm pipe, with a 50cm head hight then you could still have the tank 65 meters away.

I have others here if you need them. The big thing seems to be

1. protecting your supply pipe from frost and damage and leaks.
2. Having your tank in a position that prevents fire hazards.

Thanks for the info, what I'm really after is how close the tank can be, sorry if that wasn't clear from the original post, I want to move the boiler closer to the tank

Should not be a problem. The boiler can be anywhere I guess, you just have to make sure you have oil flow. One thing they frown on is the exhaust and intake from a balanced flue being too close to the fuel supply. Try the Oftec site for the current regs, they even have a form where you can send for advice. Maybe some heating engineer will join in this thread and give you pro. advice

Just in case any one else is looking for this I e-mailed OFTEC and they replied that the boiler fad to be 1.8m away from the tank, thanks for your help
