Actually there have been several incidents & several studies that do show it happens - and this is just with one or two phones active.balsingh wrote:Exactly! If there was a case that mobile phone usage in a plane had caused some kind of problem,

And that's from the first 5 google results for "mobile phones aircraft"0 -
I dont think they do interfere with equipment and I think I saw something the other day implying that in the near future there will be at least one airline allowing mobile phone use on board
Its a bit like the mobile phone use at petrol pumps, It has been proven that there is absolutely NO CHANCE of any danger0 -

I agree with that point ... even when someone on the train is using a phone at the top of their voice, its annoying ...... BUT .... it still doesnt justify the flight companies saying that phones cant be used in Flight Mode. What was the point of Nokia/Sony etc. having flight modes if thats how the airlines were going to react? If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -

Yeah but that is just bad manners!0 -
the debate actually answers the original question ....you're disputing the need for mobile phones to be switched off anyway.
if there's a 1 in a million chance of a mobile phone causing a problem with a plane or igniting a petrol station ....do you really need to use it ? what's the problem? is it so that after making your call to tell everyone that you are waiting to board the plane you can phone 5 minutes later to tell everyone you are on the plane etc etc ?0 -
ive always thought about this as well, interesting reading on some of those google finds however what about this, all the poor passengers on board those hijacked planes that used phones to contact relatives/authorities they didnt have any adverse effect on there planes:pCompo challange:Amount won £0 Need to win £2400

Observation #1 about cellphones:
Why is it that no matter who you are calling or who's calling you, why is it that the first thing you say after "Hello" is "Where are you?". Like it's any of yours or their business where you are! But still we do it!

Actually NO. The original question wasnt about using the phones to make a call but to use the phone as an MP3 player or to watch a video etc. Why should someone carry an Ipod as well as a phone when the phone can serve both purposes? If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
you used the term 'planes' whereas you should have used 'plane' ....and it's not a very good example as that was the only one that 'crashed' without reaching its target of the fourronnie wrote:ive always thought about this as well, interesting reading on some of those google finds however what about this, all the poor passengers on board those hijacked planes that used phones to contact relatives/authorities they didnt have any adverse effect on there planes:p0 -
it's called life ...you don't need to carry an Ipod as well as the phone but the chances are you aren't going to listen to your own music.balsingh wrote:Actually NO. it's the airlines rules and they won't force you to fly with them ...they probably have enough on their plates with all the extra security and vigilance required at the moment ....they probably haven't got enough time to !!!!!! about seeing what mode your mobile phone is in...life can be easy if you want it to be . on other threads you'll find a whole raft of ideas where you can buy an mp3 player for about £20 which will do most of your european trips.0
