Inspire me please

Hey all

I have the week after next off (w/c 20th sept) and want to see some bits of the UK. But I'm not sure where! Can anyone suggest some interesting places or things to do.see for me as I'm lacking inspiration?

I live in Llanelli (South Wales) and am right on the end of the M4. I have a car, willing to travel though no more than 2hours or so away if day trip, can stay overnight if it's further. Can get train or bus too if cheap deals are around.

I am female, late 20s, like sightseeing, castles, museums, art, beaches, lighthouses, old houses, spa days and shopping.

I've done places like Cardiff city centre and Bristol for shopping a million times and spend a lot of time in Pembrokeshire for work so maybe not those places.

There are probably a million places on my doorstep that I could go to if I knew about them!

Thanks in advance

Train to york, zillion things to see, Travelodge in the city centre, cheapish if you book in advance. Have a look at the Website.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

York is lovely, I personally think it's one of the nicest places in the country!

What about Chester? It looks nice and a place I wouldn't mind going for a day out

  • Unfortunately York is a bit too far a trek. I'll look into Chester though.

    Any other suggestions?

Stratford upon Avon and Warwick (for the castle). In Stratford you can buy one ticket to give you entry to all the Shakespeare properties in and around (his birthplace, Ann Hathaway's cottage etc). Warwick Castle is amazing, such history and atmosphere.

Oxford and nearby towns such as Woodstock for Blenheim Palace, and some of the Cotswold villages ?

Closer to home would be Bath, you might also have time to fit in Wells and the Cheddar Gorge. Lovely shops in Bath and such a lot to see.

Going east down the M4 you could "do" both Windsor and Hampton Court as you like historic buildings. Probably just within the 2 hour driving limit.

Enjoy yourself wherever you choose to go.

  • As you mention that you have easy access to the M4 how about Reading (don't laugh). Good for Shopping, and with easy access to Henley on Thames/Oxford/Windsor. If you are looking to stop overnight in a hotel and want to be MSE have a search for the Millennium Madejski Hotel. Click on the 10 year anniversary deal and you will see that they are offering 10 rooms each night for the princely sun of £10 for the room. The promo code is 10years. The Hotel has a pool, jacuzzi and sauna (no extra charge) so ideal for a bit of pampering. Although the Hotel is a little out of town (close to the M4) there is a park and ride outside the hotel that goes direct into the town centre.

Alternatively you may wish to head south to the New Forest in Hampshire or Bournemouth or Weymouth in Dorset although not sure of the journey time, just nice if you want some nice sea air and lovely scenery.

    Have a lovely time.

Chester is a good shout or Liverpool both a little further than 2 hours (more like 3.5)so a overnigts stay would be good . Look onto laterooms travelodge etc for deals for a cheap hotel. The Lleyn Peninsular & Snowdonia is breathtaking at the end of September still busy, not too cold ,colours of autumn second to the scottish highlands for escapes IMO. (i am not selling my gaff its fully booked this year)
How about Cheddar/Wells & Glastonbury area too ? Good luck
