Question for anyone who has lost weight..

My goal is to go from a size 18 (current) to a size 14.And I'd like to be in those size 14's by mid November....

How much weight is that likely to be? I'm thinking it will be a couple of stone or so...And how long did it take you to lose enough weight to lose two dress sizes?

Realise there's probably no hard and fast rules for this, just looking to hear other people's experiences..

  • It really is a how long is a piece of string question!

I have in my wardrobe jeans from the same shop in size 22 (my current ones) and size 18. Both fit me at the moment. I would say I am currently just a smidge over a size 20 cos my 22s are roomy, and the 18's are tight but wearable cos they have stretch.

I've lost almost a stone in 5weeks and have gone from the 22s being very tight to them being roomy.

But everyone is different. If you look in slimming magazines you'll see people who have lost 3 stone and have lost 5 dress sizes. If (when!) I lose 3 stone I'll be around size 16-18.

    Good luck

  • my weight goes up and down a bit :) but the sizing thing can be different. EG when I'm heavier, I'm a size 18 bottom, size 16 top. But when I lose a stone and a half or so I can go down to a size 12 top but only down to a 16 bottom. I've made it to a point where size 14 bottoms will zip up before :) but they do look ridiculous - that's closer to the 2 stone off mark.

What I'm trying to say is that it depends on your body shape - I'm hippy so the weight all comes off my top first and my size shrinks quite a bit, whereas the bottom takes ages to drop a size :)

It is really hard to know, two years ago I was a size 28-30, am now a size 16. Ive lost about 12 stone. However, I weighed 14 stone 7 at beginning of a year and was in my size 18 jeans and now I am 12 stone 7 and still cant fit into smaller jeans! Agh its so frustrating! Top half is in size 14-16 comared to 16-18 at beginning of year. I think it depends on a lot on shape too

Sorry just realised prob wasnt much help at all

I'm 5'8" and my weight always distributed itself fairly evenly all over!. I lost 5and a half stone, ten years ago and it was pretty much a dress size down for every stone

However at goal, I was still fairly flabby, hit the gym with a vengence, toned up, regained half a stone, but dropped another dress size, from a 14 down to a 12!

And of course, what dress size you are depends on what style of clothes you buy and where you buy them!

OK, well I don't do slimming clubs(don't play well with others). But do see a dietician(sp) every six months. I started at size 20 May 2009 and today I am a size 14-16 depends on the brand. I am 5ft 1 and half inches tall and weighted 15st 2lbs I now weigh 11st and they want me at 10st. I don't get on the scales, well every few months perhaps. The slower you lose it the longer it will stay off, I think perhaps I lose a lb a week?

My weigh comes off in different areas at different times, hips first then, bust and suddenly off my face.

If you lose so much by mid November it will come back on very quickly unless you can manage to keep it up.

I'm an 18 too and i'm aiming for a small 16 by christmas - putting yourself under that much pressure isn't a good idea.

I think it also depends on your height. A size 18 and 14 at nearer 6' is very different to someone at 5' 6" or 5'.

If you look at the nhs or bmi sites, they should give you an idea of what you need to do to get to an healthy bmi for your height.

I was 18 at the top of my weight and now Im 14 and sometimes a 12 (Im currently wearing a size 12 pair of skinny leg jeans from House of Fraser). It has taken me over a year of sensible dieting - if you go for a mad crash diet (and it would have to be to lose that much in 2 months) then it will whack back again just as quickly. In all Ive lost just under 4 stone in that time. But of course, it depends on your personal height and build and current weight. Healthy weight loss is 1 or 2 lbs a week

One dress size is usually about 1 stone, altho this is not definitive.

Cutting portion sizes will help, as will cutting carbs at evening time...

2lbs a week is a good weight loss, much more and its likely to be water that you are losing rather than fat... Slow and steady wins the race...

Try to add 20 extra minutes to your day of exercise even if this is spread out during the day... ie, use the advertisements during tv progs to do sit ups/ planks/ push ups, use baked bean cans (water bottles/ or similar) for weights to tone arms... get velco weights to put on ankles when you are doing housework/walking/usual activities will all help to burn extra calories.

Best advice - get a cross trainer... costs a bit but 5 mins 4 times a day will make a massive difference to your calorie burning :)

Best of luck and you WILL do it - remember, baby steps... when you read this, do some floor exercises and see how much better you feel for doing it :)

    xx
