Hi i'm looking to book all but 1 room in a catered chalet in the french alps now i was wondering if these are non smoking inside as the web site doesn't say and as it's been a while since going to france. we don't want to go if you can smoke inside incase the other room gets booked by a smoker as we share lounges and stuff so wouldn't be good for us if anyones stayed at these kind of chalets before and has any info it would be greatly appreciated

You don't mention which company you plan to book with. It will depend on the company. But generally speaking there is a smoking ban in place in France so you can't smoke in bars restaurants etc. The rules don't completely apply to chalets though so it depends on which company you want to book with.0

As they're a British company i would think they will be non smoking, I worked a ski season a couple of years ago in France as as far as i'm aware all British companies operate a no smoking policy. Some chalets may allow smoking on a informal basis if the entire chalet is occupied by the same group who all wish to smoke and the chalet host allows them to smoke but this would be up to the individual host to give their discretion (and against company policy) but in your case i can't see this happening as the majority of the chalet will be occupied by your non smoking party.0

I've been on loads of French chalet holidays and never known one to allow smoking inside, although they do allow smoking on the balconies.
Most chalet companies will give generous discounts if you book the whole chalet for sole use, so it would probably work out as cheap as paying full price for all but one room. I would seriously reccommend looking for a deal like this. I have stayed in a chalet before where another party had booked the whole thing apart from my room. It made me feel really uncomfortable - like I was gatecrashing someone elses holiday. I goy the feeling also that the other group also felt uncomfortable at my presence. Imagine a large group all sat in the lounge chatting together and then me coming and plonking myself down in the middle of them all. An uncomfortable situation all round!
