Car insurance ammendment problem

- I have bought a new car. I had a BMW 320d group 14. I have replaced it with an Audi A4 avant 2.0D group 12 with factory fitted rear privacy glass. I phoned M&S insurance to ammend the policy. I was shoked when M&S said AXA refussed to underwrite the insurance policy because of the privacy glass! as a result I would have to cancel my policy (60 days remaining on it), so I won't get a refund and pay a cancellation fee. They then quoed me £600 for 12 month cover despite us having 14 years no claims. I declined and went on money supermarket site. Was quaoted £380 from - yes AXA direct!! I can only think this is a scam in order to make extra money. Their is no logical reason not to underwrite, I have no problem paying an ammendment fee or increased policy (although that would anoy me for less powerful car). The only reason I can see is to make more money. This can't be best practise, and although I suppose within the terms and conditions can only be a scam. I will not use M&S again, and will not review my other car with them. Anybody any ideas?

It could be that you've made a mistake with your online quote. Have you disclosed the privacy glass as an optional extra? Is it an optional extra? Is there the means to do this online? Have you spoken to anyone about your online quote? Is that what you're supposed to do when you get an online quote or are you just supposed to hope that everything is okay and blindly pay for the cheapest insurance you can find without the first clue as to whether you've done it right or not?
Also, since they're refusing to cover you - as opposed to you cancelling the policy - shouldn't you be entitled to some sort of refund?0 -
I did it all over the phone. The guy did hid best, even tried to swap it with my other car - but that was underwritten by axa as well. It's a new car, they knew it factory fitted he asked me "Has the car any factory fitted extras" I said "Only privacy glass on the rear". I regret telling him now!!0

If I took another policy they may have refunded me, but thry quoted £600 for the Audi I payed £420 for the BMW, so i have no option, that why I think it's a scam0
