yes you can have readings as long as they are not religious - try this website http://www.weddingsday.co.uk/civil-wedding-readings/
you may be allowed to include your own vows in addition to the statutory words that make your marriage legal. However, some registrars have fixed views about what they will and will not permit. If your registrar won’t allow you much freedom, you can ask to have another registrar appointed (from the same register office) who may be more flexible, but don’t leave it till the last minute. In all cases, your registrar has the final say.:T Became Mrs Allison on 23rd April 2011

Music as well...they will usually tell you how many pieces to have and it varies. But it must be non-religious and some will want to have copies of the music upfront to vet!0

We have been given a booklet to fill in. It had a variety of sets of words for different parts, we are having 2 readings and have chosen a number of instrumental versions of certain songs for during the ceremony. My OH rang the registry office the other day as he was worried we hadn't heard anything -they have OK'd everything we need to ask our venue how they prefer the music! The best thing to do is ask0

tbh you can pretty much have what you want as long as there is no conotation or anything to do with religion.
we had a candle service this is something your registrar should talk to you about, there is also a rose service.
we also had two readings, my brother done one and dh's sister done another. we chose classical music for service.
we were offered an extra thing for all our attendents to sign but due to age and amount of people we decided against it. its really just like a 2nd marriage certificate and anyone in the service like best men, ushers, flowergirls etc can all sign.:A VK :A0 -
Same as Missknixon, we were given a booklet with all the choices and options in it, with suggested music and reading too. I had to tell them want music I am using to check its no got any religious content. We opted for the quickest and shortest one we could get, can you see we don't like being centre of attention!!:rotfl:Ahahah got my signature removed for claiming MSE thought it was too boring :rotfl:0

Have a look at your local councils web site - you may find they have all the info there anyway
Ours does and was very handy for knowing what we could and couldn't do and say etc
