What is best way to extend trial period?

just a question here. I have the main desktop pc that we never keep anything we need to save(Pictures, Letters etc). We always save them on memory sticks and after the free 90 days of anti virus are used I reboot to factory condition to get another 90 free days so, was wondering if anyone has any better ideas?

  • Use a decent anti virus program that doesn't mean you have to go through all that effort just to stay protected?

What are you currently using at the moment?

You couldn't go far wrong trying any of these three, they're all regarded as the best of the free anti virus programs and in many cases better than paid for counterparts.

    Microsoft Security Essentials
    Avira
    Avast
  • You could also try avg free edition, been using it for a while now on two pcs and ive had no problems.

AVG Free edn is dire, use one of the ones recommended by anewhope.
I'm all for moneysaving, but doing a Factory Restore every 90 days to save on paying for an AV is taking it too far-especially when there are numerous free programs that do the job.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Buy it. The problem is you're getting a 90 day trial of an older version of the software. That itself will have vulnerabilities not present in the newer one.

You'd be far better off just sticking something like Microsoft Security Essentials on.
  • I recommend Avira.

Never pay for an antivirus. Norton is a memory hogger and the rest are equally as good as the freeware.
  • It is not just the AV i get free this way but also the latest MSWorks, etc. this PC came with great bundle of free trials but I also download Revo Uninstaller Pro as that works so much better than the free one. plus my son who is only 5 loves the trials of the games.

Just wondered if as is tech section anyone would have advice on how to adjust the registery files to extend trials.

No, because that would be criminal. What are you thinking?

If you can't afford to pay for the software, use the free options. Avast 5 and Open Office with extensions

I had a virus infect my machine a few months ago even though I had AVG installed and updated (virut).
Since then I wouldn't touch AVG.
I removed it, installed avast and managed to solve the problem.

Another good freebie is Comodo - free combined firewall and antivirus. In my experience it's better than AVG.

The only issue is that it has compatibility issues with PowerDVD so if you have that, avoid Comodo. Otherwise it's a great program.

Works should not be trialware. It's included on all new PC's these days.

Again if you can't afford or don't want to pay for the programmes then download Open Office.
