I'm after some advice please.
I'd like to plant a cherry tree this autumn but I want one on dwarf stock so that it does not get larger than say 7ft. I also want the fruit for eating rather than desert.
Does anyone have any advice or suggestions
Many Thanks
GF

Unless your neighbours also grow cherries do make sure you get one which is self-fertile.But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

I've just bought one which is a
" stella" variety as in my fruit expert book it said this was the most realiable and popular choice. ? will have to see how it goesGrocery Challenge Feb 14 £500 / Spent £572.10!

I also recommend a self-fertile such as Stella. Good flavour and crop. Be careful where you get it from. I had a fantastic one in my garden in London which wasn't tall and was an excellent cropper, sadly I couldn't move it with me (unlike some of my other plants!).
I planted what I thought was a dwarf stock Stella. After 7 years, it only just cropped a little this year and it is clear it is NOT dwarf stock!!
I am on the verge of chopping it down and starting again.
Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

I bought a Sunburst on Giesla rootstock last year from Blackmoor nursery. Self fertile
DO have a look at their site http://www.blackmoor.co.uk/
Around here [Hampshire] a lot the garden centres sell Blackmoor trees, + mark up
Only had one cherry from it, but it was a new tree, lovely fruit, and looking forward to 2011
No connection except as customer
PS "If you require a smaller tree then look for the rootstock Giesla 5 which reaches around 3 metres when mature" from Blackmoor siteWhen an eel bites your bum, that's a Moray0
