OK, what are my chilli peppers doing now?
Supposedly jalapeno, I got them from a nursery for 50p. The first one I tried had no heat at all, so I thought I'd picked it too soon and have left them to grow bigger and maybe even try to go red. They're in a sunny spot (or would be if we had any sun!) and look healthy enough, the bigger ones have got to 1-1 1/2 in long.
But they're going black???
The plant looks healthy enough, as do the peppers, they're just going this weird colour (in patches, mainly at the top where they join the plant.)
Are they edible or should I just give them up as a bad job?

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Green chillies will often go through the "black" stage before turning red. I've tried Jalapenos in the past but they don't pack enough punch for me.
My favourite chillies are Pretty In purple, hot when purple, evil when red :rotfl:, an early cropper (June/July when purple), they are quite pricey per seed, but I would expect at least a 75% germination, some are quicker than others, so I leave the non germinated ones in a separate pot, and they tend to pop up a couple of months later.
If you would like to try, PM me, so I can give you my address to send an SAE to, I'll probably be able to send you a fruit's worth 8 - 10 seeds, am saving the rest as all the peeps in the office want plants, as do my customers (I do motor trade insurance, but the keenness for chilli plants supercedes this) :rotfl:
These are the earliest hot croppers I've found in the UK. Had a customer phone me at home yesterday for help, at least 60 chillies on one plant - yes they can be frozen whole without detriment to colour or heat.
Only have a few for seed give aways, as am saving the rest for plant sales, swapsies etc.0 -

Just let them continue...As long as the plant is healthy then they'll be fine. I picked my first jalapeno about 4 weeks ago and it wasn't hot at all. The ones i'm picking now are as i'd expect.0 -
Ours went a really dark blackish colour before going red.
Hopefully a few more sunny days and you'll have red jalapeno:j0
