How long is reasonable?

Hi all,
I bought a 2nd hand car at the end of July 2010. It cost £6000 and came with full service history and a 3 month warranty. It was bought from a dealer (not main). The car developed a fault bank holiday weekend and went into "limp home mode". We phoned the dealer and he asked us to drop it off. Not a major problem but its about 30 mins from our house so and no offer of a hire car etc. I thought we could cope especially as he hoped to get it back to us in a few days.
It will be 2 weeks on Monday and the latest is he is still waiting on parts. It is becoming an issue now as i need the car (if i didn’t i wouldn’t have it).
The car is a diesel 206 CC so not rare or anything.
Do i have any right to cancel the sale or demand a hire car. I want to be reasonable but i am begging lifts getting trains etc. For a while it was ok but not for an extended period.
The car is on finance if that makes any difference.
thanks for your help.

Have you asked the dealer if they have a courtesy car you can use? If you don't ask you don't get.The man without a signature.0

Not really. There is no law that says a temporary replacement has to be supplied.0

A 206 diesel? So could be waiting for a whole host of parts that are on back order for these hateful little things.0

Have you contacted the HP co as they are partly responsible?Karma - the consequences of ones acts."It's OK to falter otherwise how will you know what success feels like?"1 debt v 100 days £20000

My local peugeot is very helpful, have you asked when they expect the parts to be in stock?
I'd normally expect to pay on Saturday, they order Monday and they arrive on Wednesday.
You've also got to consider they could be fully booked, your car won't jump the queue.harveybobbles wrote: »A 206 diesel? So could be waiting for a whole host of parts that are on back order for these hateful little things.
