Hi ,
Has anyone had problems cancelling the car insurance with this mickey mouse firm?
My problem is that i no longer have use of my car and is currently on the way to the scarp yard, so I rang Kwick fit up to cancel my policy even though id just renewed it on the 5th august this year and they said " yes no problem Sir it will be £50 to cancel " which I thought was reasonable until they said " The total comes to £254"
£254!!!! for what exactly??????
Im 30 years of age and had no claims always paid on time , my insurance went up from £72 a month to £ 97 a month and let me add the car is or was a rover 25 not a ferrari!!!
My point is how can these companies charge so much for absoultley nothing. they said to me either pay up or keep the policy live and carry on paying £97 a month till the end of the year!!! Yeah right!!!!!
has anyone one had a similar experience or help me out please?

This is how firms like Kwikfit make their money. They sell their insurance at cost price and make their money by charging huge fees for mid term adjustments, legal cover, direct debit and cancelation. They are not the only ones, Swinton operate a similar business model as do many of the cheaper firms on comparison sites.I am an Insurance & Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I thought they all did this now. It's unfair but normal policy.
There are a lot of complaints on this forum where up to 6 months premium has been charged after the first two weeks, let alone 3 months after 4 weeks.
Much as I hate to defend Kwik Fit, or Swinton(?) or any insurance company that rips you off this seems to be good for an unfair market now.
Gone are the good old days were it was pro rata for the year. (showing my age now)0 -
I agree. Most or all general insurances have some scam in it. Just make sure you look carefully at the t&c documents.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
