Car Insurance - Traders Policy & No Claims

Hi there
My OH is a mechanic and as such has a traders policy for insurance. He can get me put on his policy for not much extra (a lot less than I'm paying currently for my car insurance) and I'll be insured to drive any car (up to a certain value) fully comp.
Only problem is my no claims..... will I lose them?
I've heard that you can keep them for so long (say 2 yrs for example) but then after that, if I ever want my own insurance again, I'll have lost my right to no claims??
Anyone know what the length of time is before I lose my no claims?
Thanks J x

Generally with most insurers it's two years.
There are a couple of insurers that I've heard go to 3 years (Aviva & Axa??) but there is no guarantee that they will be competitive or good insurers (in fact there is lots of criticism on here of Aviva).
So as a rule of thumb I'd say two years.
What you might have to do is have one or two years on his policy, then take your own for one year, then alternate.
My hubby and I have one car at the moment.
The easiest way to do it for us is to alternate the insurance so we both get to keep our NCD.0 -
Brilliant, thanks very much....... good idea about alternating too .... definitely worth doing that so I don't lose my NCD!Official DFW Nerd Club Member No: 286

It is important that you check the small print as a lot of MT insurers only cover the spouse's own persona car if it's registered in the policyholders name.
Do yourself a favour and check0 -
OP - I'd be happily surprised if adding you to the policy allows you to drive any car.0
