Central Heating

Does anyone know how much it will cost to fix my central heating. My house is 6 years ols and built by George Wimpey. The central Heating has decided to pack in yet we can still get hot water. I have no idea who to call, how much call out charge will be or approximate charge to get this fixed. I understand this could be a variety of things but would like an idea in my head of what price it could be before I call anyone.
Anyhelp would be extremely gratefull as we have just accepted an offer on our house.
Thanks Julie

Sounds like a diverter valve problem.
If you do not have a friend who can recommend a good Corgi fitter then use this link to find installers close to you.

If it’s a motorised valve then yes you could change this if you are a competent DIY person. Pick them up at B&Q. You are getting hot water so the boiler would seem to be ok and central heating is usually controlled by a valve which is operated electrically. Look for a box with an electrical cable which is part of your central heating pipework, maybe next to your hot water tank. These valves sometime have a manual override so if you need heating before repaired you could manually operate the valve (could be a lever on the side of the valve). As always if not a qualified electrician I would seek a friend or someone who is when working with electricity as voltage at valve will be 240V which can be fatal. If power at the valve is checked and found dead remember it will come live when central heating timer operates.

If you aren't confident with electrics, then i would say no, it also could be another electrical fault, programer, room stat etc, but my number 1 choice would be the MV.
I see you are only a few miles from me (Newton-le=willows) Lowton myself.
If you want to PM me, i will give you my mobile and help you.A thankyou is payment enough .0
