Just because there is very little competition in the town I pay more for petrol then someone who lives in a neighbouring town. Tesco can manage to keep a tin of baked beans the same price so why not petrol?
Actually Tesco's prices are often higher at Metro stores where the rent is significantly higher and volumes sold may be lower.
Part of the reason why prices are uniform for a lot of goods are the national advertising campaigns. The man without a signature.0 -

They would if they could;).
They can do it with fuel due to the difficulties associated with buying it over the internet and having it delivered to your door..:)0 -

Yup. Its called 'running a business'. They're not a charity - they're there to make as much money as possible from the local community.
If you dont like it, buy your fuel elsewhere0 -
We only have 2 petrol stations in my town, Shell and Tesco. Tesco are always more expensive than Shell.0

Now there's a thought....
If I can have my groceries delivered to my door by any of the supermarkets then why don’t they deliver petrol as well?
After all my two cars sit on my drive some time in the day or evening I could book a time to have it delivered as you do a grocery order. A little petrol tanker type van would then turn up and fill my cars up.
Remember if it takes off it was my idea and you saw it here first.:rotfl:Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.....

I filled the tank up and paid 115.9p per Lt.
Currently the Tesco in Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds are selling petrol at 110.9p per Lt. both Tescos are about 14 miles from Stowmarket Tesco either way along the A14.
How can Tesco Justify charging 5p per Lt more? Its not that we are any further away and it cost more to get the petrol there.
A tin of value baked beans still cost the same at any Tesco so why do they charge more for petrol?
I think the reason is that they can and for that I feel like I'm being ripped off.
OK so I know I can buy my petrol some place else but all of the other petrol stations in the town charge the same or more (probably because thats what Tesco charge).
Its 119.9 here so I don't know what you're whinging about. Don't like the price then go somewhere else. Nobody is forcing you to go there. They can charge more because their competitors are charging more.
By the time you'd driven to Bury to fill up you would have blown more in fuel in the travelling than you'd saved.
And BTW, Tesco DON'T charge the same price for goods at different stores. Beverley Tesco charge more for stuff than Driffield Tesco. Sometimes when there's an offer on at Driffield Tesco, its not at Beverley or Bridlington.0
