BTw its not so much the job, just the man's an @$$$. Before he took over holidays ran properly and there was none of this work for free when it suits us non-sense.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0

Well, bendix will probably shoot me down in flames, but I'd suggest your OH should submit a grievance.
And if she's not a member of a union, joining would be a good plan, IMO.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Well a little update, mh OH was paid in cash today and (I have to eat some humble pie here) that was only because the manager said it was ridiculous and did it off his own back. The new (and seemingly dreadful) payroll people still insisted nothing was wrong, but added that if it was they would have to wait until they got the original funds back before they would be able to pay her.
I have to admit my opinion of him has gone up somewhat, because they basically said there is nothing we can do and he was like @#$% that. I hope there's no way he can come unstuck on that in terms of an internal audit trail because it was the right thing to do.
I'm going to knock up a little letter, not kicking off or being sarcastic just pointing out A) The bank details have never changed in five yearsNobody seems to give a stuff, and even today they were saying there was nothing wrong. C) It was almost as if this has never happened before and nobody has thought what would we do if this happened? There was absolutely no system in place.
They need to know if they're a load of rubbish; hopefully it may help to stop this happening to others. Ironically there was a letter with the pay slip saying something like our absolute priority is to make sure staff get paid correctly and on time. Well so far you are zero for two!Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -

Think of your legitimate objective now, which is to ensure that the payroll get this right next month and for ever after.
Dear <payroll department>
As you are aware, my pay for <month> was not remitted to my account this month. This has been resolved by <Manager> making a cash payment of <£££>, which I acknowledge receipt of in settlement of my pay for <month>.
For future reference, I would remind you that my pay should be remitted to <account, sort code> as was the case when I worked for <old supermarket>.
Yours
<davidgmmafan's OH>

Why are you involved in this? Keep out of it. You sending letters is going to make your OH look a right numpty.0 -
Also keep an eye on future payments: DS2 got a cash payment because he'd been missed off payroll (casual work) in his first month back from Uni, then he was given a back payment to his account a month later, with NI taken off as it took him over the LEL, so he's just written to head office to try and get it sorted out.Signature removed for peace of mind0

We know to look out for the original payment being put into her account and understand this has to be returned. I was going to write a letter from her, as I'm better at that sort of thing.
The only purpose of the letter is contructive criticism ie the details have never changed, it is entirely your fault but your staff did not care and would not accept this. Also there is seemingly no process in place to put things right and to suggest they have to wait for the funds back (but for the actions of the manager) is ludicrous.

Letter in her name is good. But forget constructive criticism. Let them sort themselves out. Just stick to the legitimate concern - making sure they get it right next time and there is no repeat.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. What about the fact that you are thier internal customer and they blatantly are hopeless and don't care when stuff goes wrong?
If someone from another department calls me and says somebody in mind had messed up I don't just fob them off and propose no viable solutions whatsoever. I fail to see the difference.
Anyway we'll agree to dis-agree, its a faceless head office department and if this is a common thing (ie everyone's had the wrong tax deduced) the more people do this the better.Mixed Martial Arts is the greatest sport known to mankind and anyone who says it is 'a bar room brawl' has never trained in it and has no idea what they are talking about.0 -
I also work for the company you are talking about and yes they did (everyone had their tax code messed up) mine was simply split because they didnt tell the inland revenue that it was a take over just that we were new employees so the IR thought we'd all gotten second jobs. A simple phone call sorted mine out and yes the manager is talking out of his posterior with the overtime, the next time he puts a notice up tell your wife to mention to the area manager that it would cause her to fall below the NMW and he'll soon stop it.:A:A:A:A:A:A0
