Storage heaters question?

Hi all

I have recently moved to a place with storage heaters. I am apparently on Eon's Heatwise tariff (I say apparently as it's a bit confusing right now as my other post with attest).

I was wondering, can I leave the heaters on at the wall all the time with the input set to high and output set to low? Or will this drink electricity during the day? So will it only drink power at night?

Thanks

They should take heat up only at periods of low rate electricity.

They are thermostatically controlled and so only heat up as required to bring them back to their set temperature at that time.

You'll need to play with the controls a little to get the hang of the system, but you have the right idea. Keep the output control low (to allow it to be turned up if necessary to give out more heat) and adjust the input to ensure you have sufficient stored heat to last the day.

Buit I'm not sure they need to be turned on at all for a few weeks yet.

  • Hi tbs152

Premier has posted some really excellent advice. Thought I might add a brief description of our Heatwise metering set ups as they are a bit of a hybrid arrangement.

Heatwise is specifically designed for all electric properties with storage heaters. It is wired into the water/heating circuits at your property to provide 10 hours of off peak electricity for your water/heating needs.

The Heatwise part sits alongside the standard meter. This is why there are two Meter Point Administration Numbers (MPANs); one for the standard meter and the second to cover the Heatwise part. These MPANs will be noted on your bills.

You can have Heatwise with either Economy 7 or a single rate tariff.

Heatwise automatically switches the storage heaters on during the off peak times and switches them off again when it finishes. Heat is then released gradually throughout the day.

Similarly, if you have an immersion heater, this is switched on and off automatically during the off peak times.

The times the Heatwise off peak is active are approx as follows.

    5 continuous hours between 12.00 and 7am.
    3 continuous hours between 1pm and 6.30pm.
    2 continuous hours between 5.30pm and 10pm.

Hope this is useful. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help.
