I was gobsmacked when we got a leaflet through offering to clean our bin every fortnight, iirc it was about £3!

No way! It gets cleaned when it needs it+a few weeks - that is I notice it's a bit grubby and get round to doing it a few weeks later.:rotfl:

Did you report him to his boss for using his mobile during work time, and for not checking the bin numbers before wasting his time doing yours...:p

The 2 boys across the road do most of the street every half term for 50p a bin :D Works great because 5-6 weeks is about as often as they really need cleaning and I don't mind paying a couple of enterprising kids.
  • Bins don't seem to be half as bad as they used to be when I was a kid. I wonder why?

The old metal/rubber bins used to absolutely stink and end up heaving with maggots in summer! The bin men used to permanently stink. The lorry used to stink.

The modern wheelie bins/lorries/'refuse collectors' don't seem to get in the same state. Is it the bins? Is our rubbish different these days?

I think it's plastic bags. On any thread about supermarkets charging for bags, loads of people will say it's silly as they reuse them for their rubbish. I'm not old enough to have experienced it, but years ago plastic bags weren't as widely used.

Also, it's probably health and safety rules that mean the lorries have to be washed more often.

Have to say I have problems with maggots in my brown bin. End up using half a ton of salt to kill the beggars.
