  • Can we open a joint Reward account with Halifax and do the transfer of direct debits from Nationwide even though the Nationwide account is just in my wife's name?

Yes you can, but your wife would need to provide the switching information i.e. her account details, etc.
Anything I post is my opinion, so from time to time I may be wrong. I try to provide answers based in fact, however I don't know everything, so (like all posters on MSE), take what I say with a pinch of salt.
  • I am not sure I have grasped this thread yet!!

I understand that you get £5 per month for having a Halifax account, but how on earth can you compare the Halifax to First Direct!!

I have banked with Halifax and I now bank with First Direct. In all honesty if First Direct charged me £20 per month just to bank with the I would....

They are head and shoulders above the rest, you ring them and they answer within seconds and with no IVR (automated menu(s)).

You ask them to do something and they do it there and then!

You ask them a question and they answer it there and then.

They seriously have got it right, ust look at the awards they have won and it should settle the decision you currently face!!
