Luggage Lock Help!

I have done a stupid thing. I bought a cheap luggage combination lock from Home Bargains a few months ago to go on holiday and use on my bag. Sorted it all, reset the code and went away happily with a nice secure bag. Problem is, I have since come home and am travelling out again in a few days but cannot remember what the code I setwas and cannot for the life of me get the da*n thing off my bag now to be able to pack it! Can anyone give me any hints on resetting the combination? It might be a cheap one but it is a pig to get off!

  • If you cant open it ,cut it off .I put a cheap lock on my bag when I was going to New york .On the return trip airport security cut the lock off and left a note to say we have cut your lock off to inspect your bag .

I had that problem with a cheap lock but didn't have access to a hacksaw, so all I did was sit down & spend 30 minutes testing each possible combination - at 741 of 999 it opened.
  • I already tried going through every combination last night but it didn't work. I probably mucked it up in some way but was so demoralised I went to bed and left it.

I dont think I can cut it off too easily either as I have no saw. Really annoyed - I am so struggling to remember the combination I set / how to reset it but I threw the da*n packaging away...

    Thanks anyway guys

Cut it off and buy a Travel Sentry tsa lock about £4.6-00 each.
They allow customs to open them through a skeleton Key system without any damage.

Also when you put a lock on a case always ensure that you tape the lock to the case/Bag itself with Duck tape, this prevents the lock from snagging and ripping off in between the rollers on the baggage belts.

Another tip never leave loads of tags on a bag or labels as Unscrupolous baggage handlers target those as regular travellers thus may be a little wealthier than plain bags !!!!!

Most cheap locks can just be forced. Wedge something like long and strong (like a screwdriver) into the loop, make sure you've got good leverage and just force it open.
When I had my loft converted back into a loft, the neighbours came around and scoffed, and called me retro.
