The Best Time To Get A Cheap/Late Deal Christmas Holiday?

From experience/knowledge, can anybody recommend the best time to get a cheap or cheap late deal Christmas holiday?

Last year we booked around the 17th December and got an excellent deal of 7 nights all inclusive (2 adults & 1 child) to Tenerife for £717.

The holiday was quite disastrous but with the help of compensation, an increased budget and the belief in that lightning (or more aptly, snow, food poisoning and killer whales*) won't strike twice, We are daring to go away again for Christmas.

Although we have an increased budget, obviously the less we spend the better but do we have to wait until the week before we fly again to get a great deal or will prices drop between now and December?

*The snow delayed us by 26 hours, mainly stuck at the airport, my partner got food poisoning at the hotel and the day we visited Loro park, the Killer whale sadly and ironically and killed it’s trainer and was obviously off display.

In my experience late deals for Christmas don't exist. There is limited availability and high demand so places will usually book up early. Anything still available at the last minute will likely to be the bottom of the barrel stuff.

The best time to book a Christmas holiday is when everyone is is still busy with their summer holidays - i.e about a month ago. Now the nights are getting colder and darker, it's about now that people start thinking about getting away for Christmas.

Budget and scheduled airline seats for Christmas also fill up very quickly at this time of year as people start booking flights to see family in places Spain. The prices are going up now and won't coming down.

Holidays returning on or before Friday 24th Dec can be good value and Friday is a Tenerife change over day, so some one week holidays staring 17th Dec to Tenerife may be worth looking at.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.
  • But that wouldn't be a christmas holiday.
I remember one year there wasn't a single holiday to be had out of Scotland from about October for Christmas/New Year.If I am going to the Far East I book as soon as the flights come out in January.

Thanks for the comments, by the looks then I'll have to take my chances as I did last year and just keep on checking until something comes up. I'm not too fussy about accommodation as long as it's clean. Apart from that 'Butlins/Pontins' in the sun would be fine (I am more picky about the main summer holiday but a Christmas Holiday is just to escape the UK, I’ve grown to hate Christmas and even with all the problems on my first Christmas Holiday Last Year, it was more relaxing than being at home.)

My budget this year is up to £1200 but obviously the cheaper the better. At the moment holidays are looking at £1300 - £1500+ with the exception of some £1100 ones if I fly back Christmas Day (but as littlereddevil has already said, that defeats the objects of a Christmas holiday).

Would you be intersted in a ski holiday, there are some very reasonably priced holidays for over the christmas period and neilson have some good deals, you dont even have to ski if you dont want to.

I have looked at Lapland previously (until we realised it would be cheaper to go to Disneyland) but have never considered Skiing, I might have a look though.

Your defo looking at 1250 for 3 star AI

You might want to leave it but the chances of getting something AI for the price you paid last time is very unlikely

  • you won't get lapland cheap over christmas, it will cost you at least £600 each but that is for a week and you can also learn to ski too if that takes your fancy

on inghams there are some deals to go around the 17th dec where you can also learn to ski, have a look at their deals
