Short of time and baffled by phone/BB deals!

Hello

I am moving on Monday and it's been a whirlwind...trying to get everything packed in time and get the best current deals on everything! I am now starting to panic as there's so much to do! I would be really grateful if someone who's a whizz at this could advise of the best current deals for land line and broadband in my new home whether as a bundle or seperate.
The line there currently is BT and the internet, Talk Talk. I am not tied in in my current property so can go anywhere (just need to organise it fast and speed of connection in the new house is important).
I need probably 40GB download on the net (speed there incidentally is 15mb) and looking for a phone deal with unlimited calls (or very cheap calls) and (from experience to include caller ID both on incoming and outgoing calls). I'd be really grateful of any advice! :)

  • Done a similar exercise myself recently

not factoring in initial promos, I found the following:

Talk talk £27.03 all in - unlimited downloads

Primus/Plusnet (separate contracts) £22.48 all in 60GB limit
Plusnet 27.74 all in 60GB limit

These are the best deals ive seen, but of course there may be others and may be promos that make some cheaper over the whole contract. Also, check cashback before you buy, I stupidly missed out on £65 potential cashback when I switched to BT (for info, for your usage BT is much more expensive and I needed BT line, which they install for free on 18 month contract)

check eligibility in your area as some areas not covered
Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved

Totally depends what is available on your exchange, there are no national 'best buys'.
Go to https://www.samknows and do an exchange search, then look for your LLU options, which will be the best deals.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • Thanks John..that's really helpful!

I'd considered the Primus/plusnet deal but have just done a lot more digging around and phoned a few friends when I should be packing boxes! I've just read a huge number of negatives from Primus customers which has somewhat put me off! Having chatted to the friends (both of whom use the net a lot and are pretty reliant on good connections for working/downloading from home) both have said independantly, stick with BT even if it costs a bit more!

I guess I don't have to have free anytime calls, it just seemed easier (I have a business blackberry which I don't have to pay the bill on myself but they won't pay my land line and I hate days spent on the blackberry!) Along with this I was thinking anytime means at least I'd know what I am paying up front, but now leaning towards BT and suffering the blackberry! Could you please point me in the direction of the cash back for that 18 month contract? Thank you once again! :)
  • Many Thanks Mac man...checked that too now! :)
  • Post office home phone and O2 broadband about £18 a month, evening and weekend calls free to landlines and O2 broadband is unlimited with FUP (never been enforced as of yet).

That 02 price will assume that it's available LLU on the OP's exchange, which we do not know at this stage.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • I am on the Weston super Mare exchange, which it would appear isn't available on LLU. Hmm...(and thank you guys!) :)

    Not so:

The r/h column shows your LLU options, of which there are several. O2 is the no-brainer option there. Sky might also be worth a look. Forget TT and Orange though...

  • Apologies! I am trying to juggle too many balls today and hit the wrong button on the 'samknows' site! I can get BT, AOL, Talk Talk, Sky, Tiscali and orange. (of which in turn tag many of the others I am sure!)
  • Thank you Mac man! You beat me to it! I just found it and posted, then saw yours! :)

Now, at the very real risk of sounding completely dim could someone give me a link to the O2 BB package recommended and the post office phone one if that's the best option? I am on the O2 website but not an O2 customer currently. If excuses are needed, I probably sniffed too much packing tape and have lack of oxygen from the mass of boxes around me right now! Either that or I am just being a girly technophobe! ;)
