back to work strugle

question
i was a self employed carpenter but due to the economic situation work has come to an end. I wish to retrain and have booked on a 4 mounth course, however , this is very expencive and after paying for this i will be strugling with the every day costs of living i.e traveling and outstanding comitments. I have searched almost every avenue for some finacial help to no avail. Because of self enployment and my partner works full time i am not entiteled to any assistance from job seakers. I am 50 years old, and dont think i'm asking for much but, nobody seems able to care about me wanting to get back to work. Does anybody have any ideas where i can turn for the help i need ?
