When I go into my 'sent' folder, I used to be able to do a search for sent items, but the search facility doesnt seem to be working properly now.
There is a message at the top saying 'search results may be incomplete because items are still being indexed. Click here for more details'
When I click, it gives the message :
26729 items remain in 'Personal Folders'
26729 items remaining across all open mailboxes
Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I have tried closing it all down and rebooting (my answer to everything!) but it still doesnt work.
I really need this search facility as I often need to check what I have sent to customers... I would be really grateful for any help!
Thanks...

Yep...
Each email folder (inbox, sent, deleted items, any you've created) is in fact saved on the hard drive a database. Outlook and Outlook Express start to get all funky once that individual file hits 2GB. I suspect that like a client I went to yesterday, you don't delete sent emails so its hit that limit and all kinds of things are happening. 2GB can be hit quite quickly if you're also sending attachments. Go through it and delete all those joke emails you've forwarded and create a new folder and transfer some to that.0 -

That's why Hammy suggested to delete all these forwarded joke emails. Or do you need them for reference?

You might need to compact (or however it's called in Outlook) your PST. Google for "compact Outlook PST"...0 -
