Off Road Parking

Hi All,

I currently rent a property that has off road parking (meant too). The street I live down has parking restrictions. The problem is that when I am at work or my neighbours are at work, people park there that have no right to. And last night someone has parked in my neighbours spot and have just left it there (Its still there as I write this!)

In the past I have spoken to the estate agent (my landlord) and the police but there is not alot I can do except as per my landlord "block em in" or put a note on the windscreen which they will ignore. There are no gates on the drive way so anyone can park there. I will suggest putting the gates up but in the end its up to all the landlords agreeing to this. And I dont thing this will happen.

By rights these people are parking on private property. Its no different to someone parking in your front garden? Is there anything I can do legally? There are no signs up stating residents parking. Anyone tom, !!!!!! or harry can park here and there does not seem like a thing I can do about it. I feel like that those that park here when not entitled to are stealing from me and my neighbours.

Thanks for your time.

  • same as if any human was taking the wee out of you in an other way ,go and tell them , they may not even know there causing a problem,I know that sounds simple but gotta be bettter than having to get ppc's/ clampers /any other mutant monkey involved if they start kicking off give them what there asking for and/or cause a scene they probably won't come back if you embarrass them that much

If your landlord don't put signs up, is it not reasonable for you to take the initiative and DIY?

WARNING; It is risky confronting trespassers verbally on your own without good negotiating skills especially if you live in or near a rough area
    If it moves; sue it!

Gummed lables the ones you lick always work well :) I used to have the same problem till i used them with a polite message on saying private parking area....!!!! off !

I have no problem parking on private land providing I am not causing obstruction to others etc whats the harm ? if its someone elses space etc them id move

  • I don't think so. Most posters on here discourage abuse of parking facilities. What we take objection to is trying to extort ridiculous sums of money from the gullible by using deception.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!

Think you are reading it wrong, what we are trying to get across is that you dont pay exceptionally stupid charges to the private parking companies for overstays etc.

Even if its a private pay and display car park I personally would pay, however if I overstayed then I wouldnt pay a charge of say £70...they havent lost that £70 all they have lost is the cost of the time I hadnt paid for.

Very sticky signs on windscreens, or put up a clamping sign, park your car there and clamp it - I doubt even the new regs won't prevent you clamping your own car.

We used to do this in a property I was involved with and it worked a treat.

I remember a few years ago finding an expensive BMW with blacked out windows parked in my allocated space and I stuck a large printed notice on the windscreen using masking tape.
Just as I was walking back to my flat I was aware of someone walking behind me.
I looked round and saw a bloke built like a brisk s**t house asking me if I just stuck the notice on his car.
I told him it was my space and he should not be there.
He did not seem to like this at all and seemed to get pretty threatening and said I must take it off now or he would scrape it off with my face!
I guess I should have told him where to get off, but he looked pretty menacing and was about 3x my size so I reluctantly took the notice off.
He said that if there was any trace he would use me as a scraping implement, but luckily it peeled off ok.
Then I said "OK can I have my space"? But he said "I'll move when I choose to".
Anyway I went back to my flat pretty annoyed, but still in one piece!
As soon as my back was turned he moved the car, but I guess he did not like being given orders by someone 1/3 his size!
