Autumn bliss 6 foot tall but no raspberries
Hi all,
I grew some autumn bliss canes last year. They grew well and I got a handful of raspberries. I cut them back to the ground once they had finished fruiting.
They all re-grew and also got some new cames come up which I left and I wanted to increase the crop. So was expecting a bumper crop this autumn but I've got nothing. No flowers, not even any signs of flowering.
The canes are 6 foot tall.
I'd have thought they would at least be flowering by now.
Whats going on? Shall I cut them back again and hope for the best next year?

We grow Autumn Bliss and they should be cut down in Jan/Feb not straight after fruiting, summer varieties are cut down after fruiting.
The main difference being summer rasps fruit on canes made the previous year and autumn varieties fruit on canes grown the same(fruiting)year.
I guess yours got so tall because the had longer to grow. We've grown this variety for years and they've been fab but this year they're rubbish0 -
Leave them alone, as macma says, wait until Jan /Feb before you cut them down, by which time the canes will be just dead brown sticks
My Autumn Allgold have been bountiful this year [two year old plants], so variety may just have a bearing on croppingEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
My Autumn Bliss have only just put out little flower buds and the canes are about 8 feet tall. There were a few early flowers this week, but not many.
I don't expect to see any raspberries until the end of September - which is what happened last year and the year before and the year before thatI was picking raspberries right through November! It's weird, to be honest.
So, I wouldn't worry too much - it sounds like your canes are true to type and late developers like mine.0 -
Thanks guys...
ohhh and thanks Kay for that bit of info...maybe they will start to flower later and i'll be lucky enough to get a crop around November time :beer:0
