BT line rental but Sky Talk

I am currently moving home and in need of a new phone line. Is it possible to just take up BT line rental (and not their call package) because I am after Sky Broadband which will be discounted if I take their call package too. Will I be charged anything by BT if I do that?
My old contract with BT is still running at the moment for my previous house. Does anyone know how I can find out when did the contract started? Is it the same as the day when all my bills are charged to me? I would like to stop it (coming to an end in a months time, but not sure which date exactly) without incurring any charges.
Or can I migrate the line but without their call package?

All BT Line Rental comes with some element of calls bundled in, the cheapest being the Unlimited Weekend tariff. So on this tariff you are not really paying any extra.
Beware that if you move your line rental to Sky then your line will be LLU'd if you are on a Sky LLU exchange. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Beware also that, if you keep BT line rental but opt for Sky Talk as your CPS calls provider, you will not be able to use the 1280 prefix to make any calls via your BT calls plan and so will be charged for Caller display and/or BT 1571 if you have/use them.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I dont quite understand what you meant by being LLU'ed? I've checked and it seems like it has already been LLU'ed since Sky is offering their LLU Broadband (not Connect) in the area?
I wont be using much of the phone anyway, I am only after the discount for the broadband. Am I breaking any clause with BT if I choose their BT Line Rental with Unlimited Weekend (I think Unlimited Weekend is free?), then go to Sky and choose their Sky Talk call package (not line rental) so that I can have the 5pounds discount for broadband?
Edit:
I also noticed this on BT siteLine rental options
There are two ways to pay your BT landline rental. During your order, you can choose either:
£12.79 every month (with Direct Debit)
£9.49 a month equivalent, when you pay 12 months in one advance card payment of £113.88 (Line Rental Saver)
Save £39.60 per year. Cheaper than Sky, Virgin & TalkTalk
Get the convenience of paying by Direct Debit
Save paper with paper-free billing
NB. You need to make at least two calls a month to avoid a £1.50 monthly charge. Payment is non-refundable.
If you already pay monthly BT line rental it will show in your order and you can switch to Line Rental Saver if you choose.
How does that work then if I am using Sky Talk calls package? I am assuming I have no choice but to pay extra 1.50 every month?Eleventh Heaven #23101 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 110 -

Plus £2.79/month if you have Caller Display.
So just the £1.50 and Caller Display charge have almost wiped out your £5 Sky broadband 'saving'.
Plus £1/month for basic 1571 (please don't even think about that).
And you lose the £1.25/month paper-free discount.
And you get charged £1.50 extra per month if you pay by a method other than direct debit.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. How can a line that hasn't yet been installed already be LLU'd? All you have confirmed is that a Sky connection for line rental on this exchange is likely to be an LLU service. No free lunch, and no free laptop

I think you are right..it is just all too confusing and a hassle to do that.
Also macman, I am renting the flat which already had an existing line before. Can that not confirm the line there has been LLU'ed?
Anyway, regarding the bt line, should I just migrate my old line, or get a new line at the place? Any cashback offers at the moment?Eleventh Heaven #23101 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 110 -

Well, your original post did say 'I am in need of a new phone line'...
If it is a Sky line then yes it's likely (but not inevitable), that it has been LLU'd. What you need to find out is whether the line is disconnected or not.No free lunch, and no free laptop
