Router not working properly

Hi, my friend has put in a router so that the cable disappears, as her computer is upstairs in one of the bedrooms, but since she's done this, the connection to the internet is very slow, she is not happy with it. Anything she could do????

If it is wireless, it could be signal/channel interference, or the neighbours piggy backing onto the connection if it hasn't been encrypted. Or she may be connecting to someone elses router..
